Condensed into one 24 hour day, this is my Hong Kong.
The idea was this... Wake up at 5:00am and see how much of the city I could experience until it was 5:00am on the next day. There was no planning ahead. Throughout the day, I did everything I loved about the city... breakfast at a Cha Chaan Teng, a quickie game of Street Fighter II, buying food at a wet market, and a night out in my neighborhood of Wan Chai. I met old friends and made new ones. I people watched. I went to tourist areas, visited industrial areas, walked through the throngs of people on a weekend evening in Causeway Bay, and hiked the trails of Lamma Island. If there hadn't have been Olympic related visa problems with the mainland, this project would have included Shenzhen. I took taxis, ferries, buses, subways, and trams. And, of course, I walked.
There were two times when the project almost ended. First, I lost every single one of my pictures from Lamma Island while transfering them to my laptop. I was able to do some computer-fu and I managed to find the thumbnails. This hurts me more than it hurts you, trust me. The second time was at 10:00pm, when, fresh from a "Hong Kong Second Shower", I pondered whether or not it was a good idea to go another 7 hours.
But, as everyone does there, I kept going.
This is one day in the best city in the world.
